Q: How many hours am I required to work?
A: Most volunteers are required to work for 20 hours during the course of the convention. If there are certain games you want to play that you would like to schedule your work around, we can most always accommodate that. In fact, our volunteers are given preference on a first-come, first served basis. So if you want to be able to choose your schedule and be off for specific hours, we recommend that you sign up to volunteer early. We will have a lot of returning volunteers, but if you sign up early we can likely accommodate your preferred schedule or work area.

Q: What type of work will I be doing?
A: It depends on which area you are assigned to. Overall, you will be providing customer service and guidance to attendees, letting then know where to go and how the convention runs when they have questions. You may also be delivering things, overseeing events, providing paperwork and instruction or just helping out wherever you are needed. If you have a problem working any specific area, please let us know. When you speak to the Volunteer Coordinator, she can tell you more about the different areas and the requirements of working them so you work together to choose.

Q: Can I choose the area I want to work in?
A: Usually you can. Area volunteer needs are filled different ways. One of those ways is in order of volunteer registration. Another is availability. The more flexible you are with the hours you can work, the easier it is for the area supervisor to fill their schedule with you. If you sign up early you have the best chance of getting the area and hours you would like to work..

Q: Can I choose the hours I have to work?
A: Again, the sooner you volunteer the easier it is for the area leader to accommodate your preferred schedule. If you wait until all of the slots are filled, you will have to take whatever is left over. We want you to enjoy your Con Games Volunteer experience, and will work with you as much as possible to get the hours you prefer. However, in order to organize the event, we need to fill the necessary slots as soon as possible..

Q: I'm not sure I can volunteer because of work/school/other. Will I be able to volunteer closer to the event? If so, can you reserve a place for me in my preferred area?
A: If we still have volunteer openings closer to the event, you are welcome to join in. Unfortunately, we cannot reserve a certain area or schedule for you to work in. At the time you volunteer and fill out your paperwork, we will let you know what is available for you to choose from...

Q: I'm running games for a local store. Will you be able to schedule me around that?
A: Our volunteers commit to working 20 hours for us over the duration of the convention. Some of our volunteers also choose to run games in addition to their volunteer duties, either for themselves or others. So that our volunteers are fresh, able to get enough sleep and enjoy the convention, we will only allow them to run 12 hours of gaming above their time commitment to us. The exception is a GM who is specifically running special events or games for area programming, which will count towards their 20 hour commitment..

Q: How are we compensated??
A: Our volunteers will get a wristband that allows them full admission to the convention, which will allow them to enjoy the convention when they are not fulfilling their commitment to us. Also, so that they are not distracted with the need to leave for food, we offer a volunteer staff lounge with healthy food for them to eat during the convention. However, it is important that you know that you are strictly a volunteer and that no compensation is required or given. Nor does ConEvents retain any liability of or responsibility for your efforts. You will be required to fill out a disclaimer confirming that you are an individual contractor and responsible for any insurance or liability that stems from being a volunteer for ConEvents, LLC .

Q: Do you provide meals or lodging for volunteers??
A: We will be providing a volunteer staff lounge at the Phoenix Marriott East with some food to supplement you during the convention. However, at this time, we do not provide lodging our housing of any type for our volunteers.

Q: What do I need to bring?
A: You shouldn't need to bring anything. We will provide you with any supplies necessary to do the job assigned to you. Feel free, however, to talk to your area leader if you have ideas or want to bring different things that will make your job more pleasant.

Q: What type of clothing do I need to wear?
A: We are pretty flexible on that, as long as you remember that this is a family event. We will provide you with one Volunteer T-Shirt. Some of the different areas choose 'theme' days and like to dress in costumes. We encourage costumes among our volunteers, as it adds to the spirit of play at the convention. Your costume can be as dramatic or complex as you like, as long as it does not hinder your ability to do your job. If you choose to not dress in costume, you may come in any casual attire that will not reflect badly on our image.

Q: How will we be trained or know what to do?
A: Each area has different requirements and needs. When you are assigned to an area, that area leader will let you know what is required of you and what you need to do. We also have area FAQ's, so you should be able to look up any questions you have or ask someone one if you get confused. Volunteering is not difficult, if you come in with a willing spirit you will have fun and learn quickly..
