Speaker Profile

David Nelson has worked in the book industry since 1975. He is a highly creative and analytical publishing professional with extensive and diverse experience in sales management and marketing, as well as the acquisition and development of book projects.

His experience includes working in a retail bookstore, a major book wholesaler, and over twenty three years at two major New York publishing houses. His career in publishing began in 1978 with The Penguin Group. He started as a sales representative based in the Midwest and worked his way up to Vice-President, and Director of Sales. He left Penguin after eighteen years to join Harcourt Inc. where he was Vice-President and Director of Sales, responsible for all US and international market channels.

He has worked with internationally known authors such as Stephen King, Garrison Keillor, Terry McMillan, Umberto Eco, Jan Karon, David Guterson, Jose Saramago, Eileen Goudge and Mary Karr among others.
