Between her love of reading romance and the boredom of the computer room, Chrissy turned to ebooks for entertainment during the long days of working as a computer operator for a system that actually worked. “People get upset when they see you reading a “real” book, but reading an ebook looks like you’re working!” When she stumbled upon Ellora’s Cave, she just knew she had found her destiny.

While perusing Amazon’s reviews of books, she struck up a conversation with EC founder Tina Engler. They discussed monogamy and the unwritten rules of romance, Tina suggested she check out her new ebook site that was opening soon. Chrissy made it a regular stop when making the daily rounds looking for new ebooks and became Tina’s very first customer (sorry, moms don’t count). Over the next several months Tina and Chrissy carried on an email conversation about books, chatting about likes and dislikes. Little did Chrissy know that Tina was vetting her for a position of editor!

“In August of 2001, Tina asked me to become EC’s first contract editor. With the promise of making peanuts, I jumped at the chance to do what I had only dreamed of: working with authors in the development of romance books. A year later, on September 1st, I became EC’s first full-time employee and Chief Operating Officer of the corporation.

Now I’m the Vice President and Publisher of Ellora’s Cave, in charge of the publishing side of the company and I have never had a more fulfilling job. I can’t imagine working anywhere else. This is a phenomenal company.”

She will be taking agent appointments in the South Ballroom during the conference.
