For the ICE Escape 2005 Writers Conference, ConEvents, LLC is proud to sponsor a Charity Auction to benefit Sunshine Acres, a children's home.
Sunshine Acres is located in Mesa and their mission is to provide a loving, wholesome Christian home for children who are separated from their parents for one reason or another, and to help them establish long-term relationships with stable parental figures.
The basic goal of Sunshine Acres is to provide for the emotional, social, physical, educational, and spiritual support for the children, so they may learn to manage their own affairs along with maximizing the development of their potential, abilities and interests.
The ultimate goal is to facilitate a child's development to voluntarily leave the Home and function within a community environment in a style that is both meaningful and purposeful to himself or herself, as well as the community.
Children between the ages of 5 and 15 can find a safe, secure and beneficial living environment.
No child is turned away because of financial reasons. Sunshine Acres is financed primarily through private donations. Some contributions are given through the United Way, family estates, corporate, and memorial gifts.
All gifts, be they large or small, are deeply appreciated. They do not receive any financial support from the Federal, State, or City Governments for care of the children. All donations are tax deductible.
Sunshine Acres was founded by Vera and Rev. Jim Dingman in 1954. They have 7 houses that house approximately 70 children. Several of the houses date back to the 1950's. Work has recently begun on a new girl's dorm but more are needed.
The children are allowed to live at Sunshine Acres as long as they want - even through college. They enjoy several significant programs including 4H, Choir and Seidokan Karate instruction.
This year's ICE Escape Charity Auction is organized and presented to you by the Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society (CASFS), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
CASFS' mission is to promote science fiction, fantasy and science interest in Arizona. To this end, CASFS sponsors several science fiction and fantasy related conventions annually.
In July, CASFS presents Hexacon, a gaming convention and in September, there is CopperCon, a literary-oriented convention. This year's CopperCon, September 9-11, will feature the science fiction and fantasy writers Robert Sawyer and Greg Keyes.
For more information, please visit www.casfs.org or visit them at their booth in the Merchants/Exhibitors Room.
The Auction will be held on Saturday from 2:00 - 5:00 in the North Ballroom Room. Bidder numbers will be issued just before the auction. You must be a member of the convention to bid. All items must be paid for at the end of the auction. We accept cash, checks and credit cards.
Items have been donated by guests of this convention, authors, artists, publishers and local businesses. The items will be on display in the Merchants/Exhibitors Room on Friday and Saturday until time of auction. Please stop by and see for yourself the wonderful items we've collected.
