I tweak, there for I am. Okay could not leave this alone either. First I will talk about why I made some of these changes, then below will be the changed skills, and below that the new skills.
All skills will be refered to as there Attribute dot Skill ie blaster is "DEX.Blaster" the first 3 capital letters before the skill name, refer to the controlling attribute.
The attributes in Star Wars can be broadly grouped into Physical (Dexterity and Strength), Mental (Knowledge and Perception), and Practical (Mechanical and Technical).
To me I never liked that everything was lumped into Dexterity and Strength was down played. By defining them as physical skills we see that the dexterity group contains hand eye, coordination and more fenese like skills. Strength then can contain brute force, endurance, and fitness based skills. With that in mind I have moved the following skills to Strength:
The second grouping is the mental group. Knowledge is defined as book smarts, factual knowledge and trivia. While Perception is based in charisma and wisdom. While not as bad as Strength, Perceptions skills were also lacking. I added a number of New Skills to Perception below.
The last group is the Practical group. In a space aged world, there is a need for the ability to interact with ships, computers, and other high tech toys. This is the practical application of the "phyisical" and "mental" aspects of a PC to the "technology" of the Star Wars Galaxy. Mechanical to me is the skills that require physical ability to accomplish, ie piloting a ship or using an enviromental suit. Technical is then the mental union, with more mind based technologies like computers and repair skills falling into this group.
PCs ability to not fall down. If you were to walk across a small beam, or need to stay in your chair after being hit by an astroid this is your skill. Removes the need to make as many generic balance checks. Instead you can make a blance check, which also can be improved faster and easier by a character.
This is the ability to work in a free fall, or wieghtless enviroment.
Working in and operation of Enviromental Suits, including space suits, chemical suits and EVA suits. Powered suits that are driven, or contain mechanical enhancments are covered under MEC.Powersuit Operations.
Artistic and even some crafting fall under this skill. Anything that is created for pleasure or relaxsation fall into this skill group. Things made using this skill can still be sold and turned into a buisness. Painting, Sculpting, Pottery, Glass Blowing, Weaving are all good examples of Artist Skills.
While riding an animal falls under STR.Beast Riding, this skill is the ability to teach an animal to sit and roll over. It is used to calm an animal or make one attack.
General performace skill; dancing, singing, reading bad poems all fall under this skill. This is also able to be used for general public speaking.
Some people who never trained can pick up on things faster than other. This skill allows a PC to avoid some off the penalties of not having any training in a skill. If the PC has a minute to look over the task at hand they can roll PER.Know-How, with a +1 at 10, 15, 20, 25 & 30, to the -5 penalty for not having any training in a skill.
Reading people, seeing small details, catching something from the corner of your eye. This also is what inititive is based on in combat situations.
This is the ability to tumble, fall and take less damage, leap over small (very small) buildings, etc.
Fitting into small places, crawling through air shafts, reaching a small bobble under the sofa.
While runnig will get you there quickly, it will also exhaust you. Hiking is the ability to walk long distances and do so efficently. Hiking allows you to pack a backpack, and carry it in the best way. To load pack animals and get you to someplace else.
Parachuting, Fast Rope entrys, close orbit combat jumps all fall under this skill. If you need to drop from some where high and get down again saftly invest in this skill.
Knowledge of the rules of sporting games and how to play them. This is the physical version of Gambling, for games you need to get into and play with yourself as the playing piece. While this will allow you knowledge of "fighting sports", this is limited to the rules of the sparring match. Actual ability to fight is still ruled by STR.Brawling. On that same note players may also need to work on otehr physical skills to aid a sport. A good Grav Ball player should know a bit about DEX.Zero-G and STR.Acrobatics!
This replaces the base computer programing skill which is now an advanced skill. Computer Operations is your ability to turn on the Holo Net and surf past all the ads and get the data you need. The ability to copy a data stick, and other computer tasks that do not include changing and creating the computers software.
A general catch all skill for electronic devices that do not have there own skill. From VCR Programing, to using personal force shields, this is the skill.
Advanced form of Business
Allows you to understand the economic impacts of events on a local marketplace. Killing of politician, or an earthquake can both shake up a local market, this skill will allow you to see these changes and act to protect your investments and strike on an emerging new market when the fire is hot.
Advanced form of Persuasion
Sexual Appeal is powerful, this skill makes use of this to get a person to do what you want. Works well with PER.Entertain as PER.Con as well. Works better against the opposit sex, but you would be surprised how well it will work on the same sex if given a go.
Advanced form of Observation
Allows you bonuses to read people, thus making it harder to be Conned or Persuaded.
Advanced form of Contortion
Takes Contortion to a whole new level, allows you to break free of manicals, and escape from boxes, cells and other confind areas.
Advanced form of Computer Operation
Ability to create new computer programs and software. Also allows you to slice and hack into existing computer systesm to get secure or hiden data.
Advanced form of Droid Repair
Driod brains are a highly advanced thing. Programing them takes a special skill. Anyone can give an order to a droid and the droid will follow it, but if you want to change the behavior of a droid, or memory whipe it you will need this skill.
